Artist Statement
We are unable to see much of the world around us because it’s either too small for the naked eye or too vast to take in from our perspective. I like to explore these too small and too large images in my work, using line, shape and color. Sometimes the distinction between being viewed very close-up or from a great distance isn’t readily obvious.
I work in fiber because it is familiar and accessible for each of us; we are comfortable with fiber because we are surrounded by our clothing and our bedding most of our lives. When I translate an image into fiber I’m hoping that the viewer will relate to the work through the medium in which it is made as well as through the imagery presented. I strive to give the viewer an overall impression that is enhanced as they draw nearer and examine the work more closely.
